IAHE Bulletin - Issue # 1 - November 2016

Welcome from the CEO

Welcome to the first issue of the IAHE Bulletin, featuring all the latest news from The International Association of Hotel Executives. When we launched IAHE in August, our goal was to create a community that would recognise the contribution of key execs to the hotel industry and provide real assistance to members throughout their careers and beyond. We have been very pleased with the initial response, which shows that this is just the kind of support you’re looking for.

Things are moving quickly as we continue to increase the value proposition on a daily basis. One of the most significant additions to our benefits platform is the introduction of a retirement savings plan, giving you the opportunity to supplement a home country pension and maximise your savings, whether retirement is right around the corner or still a long way off. We’re also very excited by our new Community Forum section on the website, which offers members an online space to network and share their experiences, plus, our new payment gateway is live so members can pay quickly and easily online.

Perhaps the most vital component of our organisation is the Career Management Centre and I would urge you to take a look on the website at the many ways we can maximise your opportunities when it comes to making your next career move.

This is an exciting time and we look forward to sharing our latest developments with you on a regular basis. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or feedback.

John Cameron, Chief Executive Officer, IAHE

Retirement savings plan launched

Saving for retirement is one of the most important ways to safeguard your future and maintain your standard of living. As part of our portable benefits platform, IAHE has negotiated a medium to long term retirement savings plan for members, provided by Hansard International, a company based in the Isle of Man with nearly 30 years’ experience supplying savings and investment products to the international market. Hansard International specialises in medium to long term unit linked savings products and offshore bonds, enabling you to take advantage of the potential long term growth opportunities in stock markets around the world.

This is a fantastic opportunity to network and seek advice, as well as being an important tool for you to talk directly to us about the things you’re looking for from the organisation. We need your feedback to ensure the Association continues to develop according to the interests of our members and the Community Forum will give everyone a voice.

IAHE President addresses hospitality figures in Sydney & Dubai

Our President Leon Larkin travelled to Sydney for HotelsWorld during the summer, where he spoke on a panel dedicated to innovation in hospitality. Over in Dubai, he spoke at Hotelier magazine’s ‘Great GM Debate’, which provides general managers, hotel execs and corporate hoteliers with a forum to discuss the unique challenges and opportunities they face. Here Leon highlighted the importance of being part of a global member Association where colleagues can come together to receive independent support and assistance.

CEO Opinion: Unlocking your potential through psychometric assessment

Psychometric Assessment provides a method of measuring generic abilities and personal attributes found to be related to effective work performance. For key hotel execs these assessment programs can add another dimension to their candidate profile, making it easier for hotel companies to identify the right person and also giving the candidate an invaluable insight into any areas they may wish to develop in order to improve future job opportunities.

Why psychometric assessments are a valuable tool:

  • They help identify a person’s capacity to do what is required of them to meet expectations and perform in a capable manner within their working environment.
  • They help to identify the type of work environments that people will be most successful in.
  • To promote more effective people management in organisations.
  • Identifies training and development needs.
  • Facilitate career prospects by identifying future management potential.
  • Valuable aid in continuity and succession planning.
  • Valuable as a tool when undertaking restructures and organisation reviews.
  • As an aid to team building and in understanding whether an individual fits the dynamics at play in groups.

The International Association of Hotel Executives Career Management Center (CMC) offers assistance and support in achieving career aspirations to those members who require it, including optional Psychometric Assessments. Find out more… click here
